Rain Boots: A Reflection

Posted by editor in Ask the Shoebloggers, Foot Health and Fitness, General

Are rain boots necessary? What do you think? I see a lot of women wearing them, but I’ve made it 23 years so far without needing them. I got a pair when they first burst onto the scene in a trendy way, about five years ago. But the pair I got was uncomfortable, so I ditched them and just never felt compelled to get another pair.

I think they’re a less becoming shoe genre. I mean, they’re rubber. But is it worth it to invest in a pair in order to save our other shoes from the rain? To save our poor, unsuspecting suede? Our innocent satins? Even our durable-but-doesn’t-want-to-be leathers? If you can find a cute pair, then just maybe it is. I combed Nordstom.com, big wig of shoe resources, to see what’s out there for those of us who aren’t lucky enough to live in drier climates.

Um, hello! Had no idea any rain boots out there were this cute! These are Michael Kors (of course!) and cost $125.00 - pricey for rain boots? Perhaps, but these don’t look like just any old rain boots. These are on trend boots you won’t be ashamed to wear in any weather.

Same goes for these, both by Chooka:

And I’m not one for patterned rain boots, because I think, while maybe cute, they scream “I’M A RAIN BOOT!” Because, let’s face it, you wouldn’t wear boots covered in cartoon hearts with your sophisticated, black Laundry by Shelli Segal coat unless it was raining, right? But, if you must do pattern, stick to something on trend and yet timeless, like an animal print:
